Oh hi. I'm new here. *wave wave*

fandom: DC Comics
title: Redemption
music: Fallen - Sarah McLachlan
vidder: Cephied Variable (cephiedvariable)
charaters: Hal Jordan (and pretty much everyone who's been important to him; ie: Ollie, Carol, his father, er, Sinestro?)
running time: 3:48

Oh, this video is so cheesy. Like, I'm not even kidding.

Y'know- I kind of, sort of promised myself I'd never make a video to a modern, mainstream song but in this case I'll forgive myself because 1) it's *Sarah McLachlan*, who is something like my favorite musical artist of all time and 2) It's *Hal Jordan* who is something of a lame, squishy guy so it's halfways acceptable to make a totally lame, squishy and cheesy video based on his spetacular screw ups! :D

Besides, the song was *nagging* me everytime it came on my playlist. I feel like I've exorcized some creative demons or something.

So what's this video about?

Well, in short it's about Hal. Original Green Lantern of sector 2814, The Guardian's proverbial "Golden Boy", co-founder of the JLA... but mostly, it's about how Hal Jordan fucked up that one time and nearly destroyed the universe! And then spent the next decade worth of comics attempting to redeem himself, only to be saved by the fanboy agenda! It's also about how Hal never really *was* as okay as everyone thought in the first place. Or something.

I used panels mostly from the original Parallax arc in Green Lantern v2 (47-50) and J.M. DeMatteis' Spectre series (because, oh, did I adore Hal as the Spectre), but there's stuff from Final Night, Soul War, Green Arrow and misc. Mini Series and Specials in there as well (Secret Origins ftw?)

LYRICS
Heaven bend to take my hand
And lead me through the fire
Be the long awaited answer
To a long and painful fight
Truth be told I tried my best
But somewhere along the way
I got caught up in all there was to offer
And the cost was so much more than I could bear

Though I tried, I've fallen
I have sunk to low
I messed up better, I should know
So don't come round' here and tell me "I told you so"

We all begin with good intents
When love was raw and young
We believed that we could change ourselves
The past could be undone
But we carried on our back the burden
That time always reveals
In the lonely light of morning
And the wound that would not heal
It's the bitter taste of losing everything I held so dear

Though I tried, I've fallen
I have sunk to low
I messed up better, I should know
So don't come round' here and tell me "I told you so"

Heaven bend to take my hand
I've nowhere left to turn
I'm lost to those I thought were friends
To everyone I know
Oh, they turn their head embarassed, pretend that they don't see
That it's one misstep and slip before you know it
And there doesn't seem a way to be redeemed...

I was stunned at how many panels I could quote, panel and page, from my own collection.

"Cheesy?" Hah. It's as if you pulled it right from my own brain. Very nicely done.

Spectre PARTY

Oh MAN, this is so very awesome. OH HAL. Like amphetamine42, I recognized quite a few of those panels (well, not by numbers, but where they were from) and just. Yes. POOR HAL.

Cheesy, maybe, but *I* loved it.

Sweet! I'm sure if I knew more about the canon it'd be even better, but this was plenty affecting.

You Are Beautiful

Cheesy? Are you mad? This was...this was...wow.

merfilly sent me over here and I'm so glad she did. This was a gorgeous tribute to Hal, both emotionally inspired and technically awe-inspiring. The timing, the transitions, the matching with the lyrics...it was gorgeous and deeply moving. Those final images...

Wow. I came here via Merfilly's link and I must say... wow.
Wonderful pacing and structure. And McLachlan does remorse like nobody's business. Wonderful.

Escape from NY

OMG! Very Cool. I just started trying out making vids and I know what a pain in the rear it is. It is a beautiful piece and perfect music.

Can you please use a service that does not require me to fill out a form and give an email address before it oh NEVER gets me to a version of the file that I can y'know, actually look at?

Thanks.

DC - Max

Hrm, that's bizarre. I've never had to sign up for anything in order to use Megaupload before, even on files that were several months old. Usually it just makes you wait a few seconds (and maybe through one frame-contained pop up ad) before giving you a confirmation code. Maybe you're just looking at it wrong? I know the layout of the download pages can be utterly baffling if you've never seen the site before (in fact, I usually prefer NOT to use it, however I'm not too sure how much my host would like me uploading VIDEOS to our domain).

You just need to enter the letters there. Don't pay attention to the rest of the page.

If you're still having a problem with it, I suppose I could use yousendit but for the size of the file, you'd need an account to open it. *EYEROLL IN YSI'S GENERAL DIRECTION*

The sending viewers to a site that will not let them view the vid until they sign up for a spam-o-rama?

NOT COOL.
